First, we reccomend going to www.annualcreditreport.com, as this is the official site that was set up when the law was passed that we are entitled to one free credit report per year from each bureau. We would suggest you run a report on all three credit bureaus, since each will contain different information and you’ll want to compare each bureau for possible mistakes.
In a year from now, return to the website and run just one bureau, then in 4 months the second bureau, in 4 more months the third bureau, then in 4 more months run that first bureau again and so on. This way you are monitoring your credit for free every 4 months. However, if at any time something comes up that makes you suspect there has been fraudulent activity on your accounts, or inaccurate information reported to the bureaus, you may want to pay the small fee to run your reports more frequently.
After running your report, carefully check for any inaccuracies. If there is anything you need help or advice with, we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
